Top Ten Print Production Certification Tests

I'm excited to announce a new feature on the Print4Pay Hotel forums!  We just launched our first Certification Testing for the Print Production Industry.

In all we'll have 10 tests that are intended to help you learn more about the terms, instruments, technology and language that's used in the Print Production Industry. The speeds and feeds are up to you. These Certification Tests are posted in the Print4Pay Hotel U forums.

We realize that the growth in the Copier/MFP industry is at the very high end.  However, the systems from Canon, Ricoh, Xerox, HP and KonicaMinolta require you to be an expert with work flow and know what your system can and can't do along with your competitors. Now we can't tell what each machine can and can't do, but we can help with growing your knowledge in the Print Production Industry.

The Certification Testing is open to all members, however all of the research documents will need to be downloaded from the Print4Pay Hotel forums.  These documents will be posted in on the P4P's Document Library for easy access.

For each week for the next 10 weeks we'll post a new Print Production Certification on the forums.  We'll be uploading new documents to the P4P Document Library also.  Make no mistake!  This is an excellent way to gain additional knowledge and become and expert in a matter of months.  Upon completion of a passing grade you'll be able to print out your Print Production Certificate that recognizes your achievement.

I've got a head start on this and we've already posted the first two certification tests, and they can be accessed here.

New Copier and MFP Selling Polls!

Over on the Print4Pay Hotel forums, the only forums in the world dedicated for people in the copier industry professionals to collaborate with each other. We've posted a few new polls.

The latest is the Solutions Sales Poll, basically we're asking what percentage of your copier/MFP sales also include an OEM Solution or a Third Party solution such as and not limited to ECopy, UDOCX, Nuance, NSI, Jet Mobile, PrintAudit, Print Director, Planet Press, Document Management, etc.. Along with that we've also asked if you include the Professional Services or add them as chargeable.

Our second Poll is the August Sales Quota Poll (take this poll now), to me this is more about how I can judge my efforts with all of the sale people in the business, not just looking at what I did in my company but more about how we performed as a group and with our peers!  July's Sales Quota Poll was pretty impressive for mist Print4Pay Hotel members.

The third poll is our Comp Plan Poll, pretty much just voting on what type of comp plan you are on. Whether it's a hybrid, gross profit or gross revenue. Click the link for the Copier and MFP Comp Plan Poll.

Last but not least is our Copier/MFP take down poll, here your selecting what manufacturers devices you've knocked out.  I find this one of the most interesting polls because you can really get a good feel for the population of boxes in commercial accounts.

That's it for the latest polls, but what's really cool is that there are ove 200 polls posted on the Print4Pay Hotel forums!

Print4Pay Hotel's brush with Irene!

My apologies for zero threads and posts on the blog and the forums.  What I thought would be a quiet vacation the week before Labor Day turned out to be an interesting week.

Living so close to the Atlantic Ocean and Sandy Hook Bay, I took notice with Irene.  I can remember my parents telling me about one Hurricane and I was to young at that time to remember Donna either coming close to New Jersey or hitting New Jersey.

Looking down Bay Ave.
Power went out on Saturday about 11PM, wind, rain, sirens all seemed to be in harmony for a worry some evening, since the weather channel had been reporting gusts in excess of 100 mph and sustained winds about 75mph along with the possibility of tornado's.  WTF, this is New Jersey, we DON'T get Hurricanes, Tornado's and Earthquakes!!

I spent the night downstairs with my 185lb mixed roty/mastiff dog and he's not too keen on storms, if it rains or there's lightning he's off to one of the bathrooms hiding! So, I thought it was best to keep him downstairs with me, cause if we had to get out quick, there was no way I was getting him to get out of the bathroom.

Irene toppled trees into powerlines near Highlands, N.J.
Sunday morning there was still no power, the rain had subsided, however there were still strong winds.  I quickly ventured outside to survey any damage, we did not have any however many of the neighbors had some downed trees.  I went to the back of my yard which over looks Sandy Hook Bay, the lower portion of the town of Highlands, Sandy Hook and the ocean.  This was right about high tide and I could see that 80% of Highlands had been flooded with storm surge and high tide.  In some areas it looked like the water was 5-6 feet deep!

Looking down the street at The Inlet Cafe.
The weather improved though out the day, the wind kept blowing until the next day and then my week of vacation turned into finding things to do with out power.  Power was finally restored on Thursday in the AM.  We had spent almost 5 days with no power!  Once the power was back on Internet usage was spotty so I figured I'd just hang up the posting on the Print4Pay Hotel forms and the MFP Solutions blog until I came back from vacation.

Selling Copiers & MFp's "Tell em it's God Calling"

I tell ya, when you get down to the last few days of the month and you're sitting on 105K that can close, anything can happen.

While I was taking a break from making some follow up calls, and I had just made a boat load of them (all of this was before the earthquake).  I overheard one of the reps state his name and our company on the phone.

Well, I knew what the question was "Who is calling"?

After he got off the phone I stated the next time I'm gonna tell someone it's GOD calling and see what happens (of course I was just kidding).

However here's few things that will irrate GOD!

  • Don't leave God on hold forever
  • Don't have a nasty attitude towards GOD
  • Don't hate GOD for calling
  • Don't put GOD into voice mail (ever)
  • Don't tell GOD he or she is away from their desk
  • Don't tell GOD we're not interested
  • Don't tell GOD we just leased a machine a week ago (that irrates GOD more than ever, it's like "you shoulda been here yesterday the fish were all over the place)
  • Don't ask GOD what are you calling in reference to
  • Don't tell GOD not to call again
  • Don't tell GOD that person isout to lunch at 3PM in the afternoon
  • Don't tell GOD he or she just stepped out
  • Don't tell GOD he or she is busy
  • Last but not least DON'T EVER HANG UP ON GOD!
So, the next time you've had a busy day on the phone, maybe you can use the GOD card, I'm sure it will either get a laugh or someone will hang up on GOD!

Selling Copiers & MFP's "How to be Successful"

What does it take to be among the elite sales people at your branch or your dealership?

For starters you've got to have a passion for being number 1.  Nothing floats my boat more than being at the top of the totem poll each and every month. I like to win, don't like to lose and will do the extra work to make sure my numbers are the best they can be month in and month out.

I've spoken about the 3D's of selling before and they are Desire, Dedication and Determination.  Too often I see reps that will slack off once they've hit their number. The phone calls, the appointments and the opportunities drop. On the other hand I also understand why this can happen, our business unlike any other is filled with rejection, riddled with price driven customers and reps, along with countless hours of research that can lead to failure.

To be the best you've got to WANT IT!  Why would you be in sales if you didn't want to be at the top of the ladder each month, each quarter and year end?

For me, I pick out a goal each year, this years goal is to be number one, not only in percentage of quota but overall sales volume (it's gonna be a dog race to the finish).  I'll admit, I'm driven and once I set my mind on something I'll try my hardest to achieve that goal.  Along with claiming the goal,  everything else seems to fall in place like the commissions, the spiffs, the placements and additional knowledge of the competition. It's a never ending learning cycle and what I like best about sales is that as long as you put the work and effort in, you never know what the next day is going to bring!

So, I've got these three targets that I try to hit every month, I know that as long as I hit these targets I'm going to be Number 1.
